What a weekend!

Hey! Well let me just start off by saying I had a great weekend and I hope you all did too! My time was spent visiting my cousins in CT for the weekend and let me just alsi say I am POOPED! Watching two lil ones under the age of 3 who have lots of energy and are oh so cute take a lot of work!

I am gonna do a lil recap of my eats this past weekend. I was very proud of myself because all I brought was 2 clif bars and 2 Boosts for snacks and that's it. I was going to make myself eat whatever was available and to not bring my special "safe" foods. I knew I was going to be OK because last time I visited them their kitchen was fully stocked and it was this time around as well.
Before I went out to run all of my errands I ate this new to me Alomnd Trail Mix Earnest Bar. This bar was delicious and there was some flavor in it that just took this bar to the next level. Can't wait to try out the other flavors as well!

Before we hit the road I ate some lunch.
Turkey & American Cheese on wheat with a pear and Annie's Cheddar Bunnies (loves!!)Afternoon snack in the car was a White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Clif Bar.

We finally arrived after a few hours in the car and I was so excited to see my cute lilttle cousins. Then it was barbeque time!
For the first time ever I had a turkey dog! There was also chicken and burgers but to tell you the truth I am quite sick of both of those so I decided to go with the turkey dog. I haven't had a hot dog in soo long and I was glad I had one the other night. Even though it wasn't a REAL beef hot dog (it was a turkey hot dog) I really couldn't taste the difference!
I was happy with myself for choosing something different despite whatever ED told me because quite frankly he did tell me to go with the boring chicken but I didn't listen, I ate what I wanted and NOT ED. With the turkey dog I had some baked beans and some TJ's stir fried veggies. After dinner we all hung out together and I had a Boost later on then went to bed since it was getting late.

After a good night's sleep I woke up ready to spend the day with the kiddos!I had a yogurt mess with Fage and Cheerios topped with banana and Justin's butter. Clif Mojo Sweet & Salty Trail Mix Bar for snack. This bar is so good filled with tons peanut butter chips and I love the sweet & salty combo.

My aunt, grammy, cousin and I took the two little ones downtown for the afternoon since we were on babysitting duty for the day! We first stopped at Uncle's Deli for lunch. My aunt and uncle mentioned this place to be good and it was voted the best deli four years in a row so we just had to stop and eat there. The thing I learned this weekend is that the kids go first and I go second! I hade to make sure they got their lunch and ate it before I could get mine!I got the typical turkey, american cheese, lettuce, and tomato on wheat bread. The sandwich was loaded with turkey as you can see. When it comes to ordering sandwiches for lunch I always tell myself I am going to try something new since there are SO many different chooses but ED always chimes in and just tells me to go with my usual go to lunch sandwich and I can't stand it because I WANT to eat something new! I mean I do love turkey but having it almost ever day I kind of get sick of it and want and need a change, so that is one thing I am definitely working on now a days.Afternoon snack was a Chocolate Chip Clif Bar before heading to the beach before dinner. We went around 6 o'clock and the beach was so nice beacuse it was not super HOT but it was still very enjoyable. For dinner we just got take out and I got a Grilled Chicken salad with bread on the side. It was definitely not the world's greatest, just a typical pizzza house salad. Blah. But like Janetha always says ya win some, ya lose some and I guess I lost this one. Later last night I had a Boost and then went straight to bed because I was tired and needed some major rest.

This morning I woke up and made breakfast for the two little ones and then made myself breakfast.
I had another yogurt mess in the Fage container with the last remains of the yog, Kashi Honey Sunshine and banana topped with Costco creamy peanut butter which was very good and creamyyy. I ate a Lemon Zest Luna Bar this morning for a snack and realized how much I really miss Luna Bars so I need to make sure I have them more often ;) Then I went for a walk with the kids in the stroller around the neighborhood.

For lunch we went to the Sugar Bowl Luncheonette! My aunt and uncle recommended we all go there for lunch since they love it and now I know why. The inside was super cool and I wish I took some pictures. It was filled with summery and beachy things and my aunt said they always decorate for all the holidays! I love how it was so hip and very diner like! I could tell all the locals love it here.
Again I got the usual turkey, american cheese, lettuce, and tomato on toasted wheat bread. Boring I know! But this time I got some sweet potato fries that were face rockin' delicious!

Then it was time to say good-bye and hit the road to go home :(
On the way home I snacked on a Cookie Dough Balance Bar. Melty and chocolately but still good!
When I got home it was just my dad and I so he offered to go and grab us dinner from Panera Bread and I got the Strawberry Poppyseed & Chicken salad with a baguette on the side.

Well there it is folks! I am tired from this fun-filled weekend and am going to bed now because tomorrow I gotta full day of nannying ahead of myself :)

Hi Jenna,

I must commend you on how far you've come. The fact that you went on a trip without packing an entire bag of "safe" foods shows that ED has much less power over you. I'm glad that you were excited to venture out and try what was available to you over the weekend. Honestly, I long to get to that point because I can't even go to the mall without making sure that I have some "safe" foods packed. Way to go, girl!

why do you always get salads? that cant be enough... to be honest this looks like a weight loss diet.

I actually don't get salads all that often. It just so happens I got them two nights in a row! Oh well. And everyone think salads are diet foods but that is NOT true!

I´m just so happy for you, Jenna!
I can tell you´re trying and challenging yourself as much as you can :D
About your turkey+cheese lunch combo... Maybe you should try telling yourself that you WILL order something different. As a challange, you know?
The worst thing that may happend will be having to try again the next day. Right?!
:D
Delicious eats, as always. I wish we had those delicious bars in Brazil!
Wish you an amazing week, love!
Brazilian XOXO´s,

no, you're right that salads are not always diet foods....but yours were. You are not being very honest with yourself in "eating a hot dog!" when a turkey dog is low cal, low fat, etc. Stop writing your blog as though you are doing great every meal because ED is winning and you are pretending he is not.

yeah that panera salad is actually advertised as their "280 calorie diet salad"..it's plastered everywhere...it's obvious you know that when you order it add a 200 calorie roll and u have a whopping 480 calories dinner... that doesn't sound like weight gain to me...

I wasn't going to comment on the anonymous comments, but to be honest, I feel as if I should, I don't really see the point in bashing Jenna. She is making progress, and taking baby steps toward meeting her goals and challenges. Recovery from an eating disorder is not easy, and I feel like it's just not right to put someone down, when they whole-heartedly did admit to struggling in some areas, and making progress in others. Sure, the salads may be a little calorie-deficient, but think of the other areas in which Jenna is improving.

It's just better to focus on the positive affirmations as opposed to the negative, and Jenna could really use to positivity right now. God has a set path for everyone, and Jenna is figuring hers out at her own pace.

Hope you're enjoying your week, Jenna :)

YAY!!! You did so great with all the food and everything. It's hard when you don't know exactly what is going to be there, but it was super brave of you to challenge that!

I really think that giving positive responses to low cal salads, etc by saying she is doing well is going to feed into the eating disorder instead of seeing how she is not being honest with herself...

just my own two cents from my OWN ed recovery.

I have to agree with Kerri, everyone cheering Jenna on should be ashamed of themselves. She's eating diet food!!! Jenna, you'll never gain weight eating the types of foods you're eating. You need some fat in your diet. Please eat something substantial.

lUnas rock!! as do the cookie dough balance bars. You sem top be doing great, i know it can be stressful going into a new situaion with "unknown" foods, but we as recoveres, must step out into that unknown territory if we want to be able to fly free of ed again. We must "dip out foot int the pool" and then dive in! xoxoxoxox

Hey Jenna!! I am so glad that you had such a great trip! You really deserve it! I am so proud of you for eating out and listening to YOU rather than ED! I've noticed the vacations I have taken are so much more enjoyable when ED is not along for the ride too. All of your eats look delicious too!! Keep fighting in recovery, you can achieve anything you put your heart into!! :)
